Unique Carvings of Palembang !!


Palembang sculpture has a special motif that is different from other regions. Chinese or Buddhist influence is still prominent, but more predominantly plants, jasmine and lotus flowers, and there is no picture of humans or animals.

                         There are many traditional markets in Palembang city such as 16 ilir market, Pal 5 market, Cinde market, Kuto market, Sekanak Market, and etc. Sekanak Market is one of the famous traditional market in Palembang city. There are three reason why Sekanak market become one of the famous traditional market in Palembang city. First of all, the location of Sekanak Traditional market is very strategic. For example, the location of Sekanak Traditional market is not far from the center city of Palembang, more exactly in the east of Kuto Besak Fort. Beside that, Sekanak traditional market is in coastal Sekanak river.Because of that, we called the market is Sekanak Traditional market. Second, Sekanak market is a very very comfortable traditonal market in Palembang city. For example, along the way of Sekanak market is very clean and the cool air comes from the air stream of sekanak river.Third, there is a special commodity who special sold in Sekanak market,that is banana. For example,we can find many kind of bananas such as Gedah, Ambon, Putri, Nangka, Tanduk, Kepok, Mas, and Susu. Beside that, there are different ways to consumed each kinds of the bananas. For example, Emas, Putri, Ambon and udang just can be eaten directly. And than, Lilin, Nangko, Kepok, and Tanduk are consumed by fried , made into compote (kolak) and bananas chips, while Geda is only consumed by made into Rimpi (sale) and in boiled. For another thing, I get informations from the treders in Sekanak Traditional market  that the bananas who sold in there come from many regions such as from Lampung, Belitang, OKU distric, Muaraenim distric and etc.In addition, the bananas from that regions bring by ships who stop at the dock of sekanak river.In addition , the price of bananas who sold in Sekanak Taditional Market is very cheap, start from Rp.10.000 until Rp.100.000 per bunch of bananas. Finally, Sekanak Traditional Market is an interesting place to visited.

Dul Muluk is one of the traditional arts in South Sumatra. Abdul Muluk theater was first inspired by a descendant of Arab merchant named Wan Bakar. He came to Palembang in the 20th century and held a reading adventure stories Jauhari Abdul Muluk, son of Sultan Abdul Hamid Shah who reigned in the land around his home in Berbari Takat Ladder, 16 Ulu. Museum Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II



 
HISTORY
                The building of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II actually is the former Palace of the Sultanate of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin Jayo Badaruddin Wikramo or Sultan Mahmud I (1724-1758). Unfortunately, in 1821, this palace was attacked by Holland. Because of the damaged and there’s no good views, this building was finally demolished on the orders of the Dutch Commissaris Reguring, JLvan Seven Hoven in 1823. In 1825, completely renovated the building and serve as the Commissioner's Office Government of the Netherlands East Indies to southern Sumatra, as well as the office of the Resident. In the years 1942 - 1945, this magnificent building was occupied by the Japanese. But after the proclamation of Indonesian independence, this building belongs to the Republic of Indonesia again. And now, this building has officially become a museum called the Museum of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II.  Museum Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II is the perfect place to explore the history of Palembang. From the sriwijaya era, Palembang Darussalam Sultanate, the Dutch colonial era and the Japanese occupation until the beginning of the independence of Indonesia.

Suro Mosque, The Mosque with a fish pool.



     The great mosque of Al-Mahmudiyah at Jl Ki Gede Ing Suro, Kelurahan 30 Ilir, Kecamatan Ilir Barat (IB) II, Palembang is one of the historical mosque. a place to pray of Muslims that  is familiar called by a Suro Mosque was displaced since its inception by Ki H Abdurahman Delamat in 1889. Unmitigated, this mosque displaced up to 32 years old at the time of colonialism.

MONPERA is a monument which is placed in the centre of Palembang city. This monument is established on August, 17th 1975 as the symbol of defence the coloniser in revolution which is named “Pertempuran Lima Hari Lima Malam” (Battle in 5 days). The battle happened on January, 1st 1947 that involved Palembang society to fight the Dutch. This monument is declared on February, 23rd 1988 by Menko Kesra Alamsyah. In this monument, we could see such kind of weapons which is used on that battle, including some documents and other historical things.
