HISTORY
The building of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II actually is the former Palace of the Sultanate of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin Jayo Badaruddin Wikramo or Sultan Mahmud I (1724-1758). Unfortunately, in 1821, this palace was attacked by Holland. Because of the damaged and there’s no good views, this building was finally demolished on the orders of the Dutch Commissaris Reguring, JLvan Seven Hoven in 1823. In 1825, completely renovated the building and serve as the Commissioner's Office Government of the Netherlands East Indies to southern Sumatra, as well as the office of the Resident. In the years 1942 - 1945, this magnificent building was occupied by the Japanese. But after the proclamation of Indonesian independence, this building belongs to the Republic of Indonesia again. And now, this building has officially become a museum called the Museum of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II.  Museum Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II is the perfect place to explore the history of Palembang. From the sriwijaya era, Palembang Darussalam Sultanate, the Dutch colonial era and the Japanese occupation until the beginning of the independence of Indonesia.
